Celebrating Cherished Childhood Memories; The ‘Growing Together’ Campaign at Notaro Care Homes
This summer at Notaro Care Homes and Notaro ARBD, we proudly launched the ‘Growing Together’ campaign, which includes our heartwarming ‘Leaf A Message’ initiative. This campaign highlights the importance of gratitude, appreciation, and community, bringing together our residents, families, friends, neighbours, and local businesses.
One particularly touching story from Aspen Court reflects the caring spirit that defines our Notaro community. Diane, one of our residents, brought with her a beloved childhood teddy bear that had accompanied her through the years. Over time, the bear’s feet had become worn, but its sentimental value remained irreplaceable.
Recognising how important this bear was to Diane, our wonderful Activities Assistant, Kathy, decided to take action. Kathy enlisted the help of her friend Christine, who repairs teddy bears in her spare time. As Christine carefully worked on restoring the bear, she made a remarkable discovery—one of its legs had been stuffed with a newspaper dating back to 1964. Christine preserved this unique piece of history, and Kathy created a keepsake book for Diane and her family.
Diane’s brother, Philip, was overjoyed by the restoration and the memories the bear stirred up for him and his sister. “I am really happy Di’s bear has been restored. She loved that bear so much and had very happy memories of it,” Philip shared. “I’m glad the story is being shared, and I look forward to seeing it.”
Thanks to Kathy and Christine’s kindness, much like the stories we see on the BBC’s The Repair Shop, Diane’s cherished bear has been lovingly restored. It will continue to bring her comfort and joy for many more years, perfectly embodying the spirit of our ‘Growing Together’ campaign.
The ‘Leaf A Message’ Campaign
Our ‘Leaf A Message’ campaign has been another beautiful way for members of the Notaro community to share their love, gratitude, and appreciation. Inspired by the Notaro logo, we created a leaf template for people to write their messages. These handwritten leaves are being collected and will be displayed on our Notaro Trees, symbolising the love, memories, and connections we all share within our care homes.
