Explore La Fontana Dementia Nursing Home in Martock

The Home

La Fontana Care Home is purpose-built and can support individuals living with dementia, general nursing, learning disabilities and mental health conditions. The home has been designed specifically for those with dementia and offers large communal areas with beautifully designed and decorated private bedrooms for relaxed, comfortable living. Fitted with the latest in care home technology that helps to give peace of mind to residents and their loved ones.

La Fontana Dementia Nursing Home can be found on the outskirts of Martock, surrounded by beautiful Somerset countryside. It is carefully designed for both style and comfort, meaning life at La Fontana is just that little bit more relaxing and enjoyable.

Bedroom sensors detect movement; if a resident awakes during the night, the room is gradually illuminated, and staff are alerted that someone may need assistance. The subtle lighting, however, does not startle the resident but gives added comfort and security just when required.

We have seven thoughtfully designed units; each benefit from spacious communal areas, large skylight windows that allow natural light to pour in and a kitchenette, meaning drinks and snacks are available at any time of the day. We encourage residents to welcome friends and family into their home to enjoy socialising in their relaxing space.

Step outside, and you’ll walk along our soft surface pathways and find our elegant Italian fountain. Our secure landscaped gardens with raised flower beds, vegetable planters, ponds, and patios are spaces where we spend time on warmer days enjoying the outdoors. Our sensory garden has been specifically designed to be dementia friendly and stimulate the senses while providing a tranquil, relaxing place to enjoy. A popular place to sit, chat and enjoy the far-reaching scenery across South Somerset.

A favourite at La Fontana Dementia Nursing Home, with residents and the local community of Martock, is our petting farm, Piccolo Farm. This unique feature was the brainchild of our animal-loving managing director and has become something of a trademark across our purpose-built homes.

When coming to your new home, we encourage you to bring treasured items, to enhance your living area and make it more familiar and personal to you.

Activities

Across Notaro Care Homes, we understand the importance of meaningful activities. They play a vital role in helping our residents live life to the full, whatever their physical ability.  La Fontana operates a comprehensive programme of daily activities, designed with our residents in mind. If there is something you particularly love to do, let your activities staff know, and they will do their best to make sure you can enjoy your hobbies and interests.

Our activities are not only designed to engage mind, body and spirit but to respect and honour our residents’ individuality. Each of our homes has its very own Activities Coordinator. They are responsible for organising and delivering a fun-packed and varied programme, which often includes trips out and visits from animal sanctuaries, community groups, schools/nurseries and theatrical companies.

Interacting, maintaining relationships and developing new ones is very much part of what we set out to achieve here. We design our homes to ensure there is always something to do, and always something anyone can get involved in, no matter what their age.

At La Fontana residents can take a stroll down memory lane, exploring the window displays of our hardware store, chocolate shop, minimarket and antique shop. The parade of shop fronts has been designed and built to create a place that feels familiar to the residents living with dementia. They are an excellent way for residents to connect with their past memories and encourage conversation and reminiscence.

Sunseekers can head off to the beach in our scenic sunroom to sit and enjoy an ice cream from our cart and relax alongside the colourful beach huts with a seaside panorama. The room has a sunlight stimulation lamp, which can help trigger happy memories, a sense of well-being and a variety of potential health benefits.

Set within the stunning acres of landscaped gardens and raised bedding is Piccolo Farm. Piccolo Farm is a warm, cosy animal petting barn and activity room within the grounds of the care home. It is home to Rabbits, Ducks, Reptiles, a variety of birds, other small animals and our adorable Alpaca’s.  Our residents love to spend time with the animals, petting them and generally taking very good care of them.

Our farms are particularly popular as they provide residents with the perfect opportunity to contribute to caring for the animals daily. The Farms have also become much loved by the children visiting their family members.

Staff

When selecting the staff to work in La Fontana Care Home, we not only look at their qualifications and experience, but we seek out fundamental qualities such as kindness, patience, empathy and respect towards others. These qualities are critical to ensure you receive the very best care.

It’s vitally essential that each person has exceptional communication skills and understanding, to ensure you are comfortable and happy, always.

To meet our exacting standards, each member of the team goes through an extensive induction and mandatory training, and most have achieved or are working towards, nationally recognised Health & Social Care qualifications.

Our training covers many subjects which include, Dementia Awareness, Mental Health, Manual Handling, First Aid and the essential Care Certificate. All training is regulated and specific to meet the requirements of our regulatory body, CQC (Care Quality Commission).

Through regular, ongoing supervisions, we ensure that all our staff have the necessary confidence and requisite skills to perform their job to the highest standard. Training and continuous professional development underlies our organisation and is integrated throughout our homes.

The Rooms

Beautifully designed rooms for peace and relaxation

Each of the 76 rooms at La Fontana has been thoughtfully designed to be easily accessible from the communal areas.  The rooms are decorated and designed to encourage relaxation and give each of our residents their own fully equipped, private area to make their own.   All rooms are beautifully furnished and each with an ensuite shower room.   We encourage residents to bring elements of their home, so they can create a more familiar living area that will help to make their room feel like home from home.

Each room features an ensuite, double glazing, underfloor heating and patio doors leading out to the beautifully landscaped gardens and grounds of La Fontana and some look over our petting barn, Piccolo Farm.  The rooms are equipped with our nurse call system, which alerts our care team to any unusual movement during the night, creating safety and peace of mind for relatives.

LCD flat-screen TV with Freeview and Broadband accessibility can be found in each room. Along with a small fridge, lots of storage and wardrobes.

Special sensory lightening is fitted in each room, allowing for gradual illumination during the night if movement is detected.
